Hans J. Wegner AT-48 Serving Trolley

Designed by Hans J. Wegner for Andreas Tuck and made in Denmark, this circa-1960s serving trolley features a sculpted removable tray, lower shelf and casters.

A gently raised tray edge, rounded uprights and open construction give this piece its distinctive sculptural character. Lift off the top to carry refreshments separately, or keep it in place as a versatile occasional table.

The designer: Hans J. Wegner

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) helped define Danish Modern design. Trained as a cabinetmaker and celebrated for the Wishbone Chair, he brought a deep understanding of wood and craftsmanship to furniture designed around everyday life. His work combines simplified forms, expressive details and practical function.

A piece of Danish design history

Manufactured in Denmark by Andreas Tuck, the AT-48 belongs to the midcentury Danish tradition of making useful furniture with graceful proportions and thoughtful construction. The branded underside names both the manufacturer and designer and bears the Made in Denmark mark.

Comparable AT-48 examples are generally catalogued around 1960 or the 1960s; the exact production year of this table is unverified. Serving trolleys of this type brought coffee, tea, drinks and refreshments close to guests. A removable tray and lower shelf made serving and storing tableware convenient—features that remain useful in today’s homes.
